With so many temptations, eating healthy at a party or get-together can be difficult. Here are some great ways to make healthier choices:
Eat a healthy snack or meal before you go. Don’t head to a party hungry.
Bring a healthy dish to share. Offer to bring a vegetable tray, fruit salad, or another healthy dish, so you’ll know there is something nutritious on the menu. Hit the vegetable tray first before moving on to other types of treats.
Drink water. Many party beverages are high in calories. Choose water instead, to stay hydrated and healthy. Seltzer water can be a great alternative to plain water. Look for varieties without juice or sugar added in.
Avoid appetizers. Most appetizers are full of fat and calories.
Portion control is key. Smaller portions will allow you to have more control over the amount of food you eat. Savor each bite and stop when you’re not hungry anymore.
Only eat what you like. Pass on the treats you don’t love! Don’t feel obligated to eat something you don’t like to please someone else. Save those calories for a food you really enjoy.
