Frequently Asked Questions

Lewerglobal’s study abroad medical insurance plans cover illnesses and injuries experienced by U.S. citizens studying outside their home country.

No. Travel medical insurance is a short-term policy that covers unexpected injuries or illnesses experienced while you study abroad. Trip insurance, on the other hand, covers things such as trip cancellation, trip interruption, cancelling for any reason (CFAR), loss of passport or visa, loss of luggage, and emergency medical treatment.

Some standard U.S.-based medical insurance plans may cover illness and injury experienced outside the U.S.; however, the coverage is often limited or offered on a reimbursement basis. High deductibles and coinsurance may also apply. Refer to your policy for more information on what may or may not be covered.

To ensure your health is protected during your travels, purchasing a study abroad medical insurance plan can provide more comprehensive benefits, with little to no out-of-pocket costs for care, and 24/7 support from trusted healthcare experts.

Inpatient and outpatient care as well as mental health services are covered and provided through a vetted international healthcare provider network, so compassionate care is never too far away.

Evacuation in the event of medical emergencies or political or natural disasters is also covered, as well as support in returning you safely to your home country.
