Frequently Asked Questions

Travel medical insurance is a short-term insurance policy that protects you from unexpected injury or illness while you are traveling abroad.

Travel medical coverage (also known as travel medical insurance) is a short-term insurance policy that provides financial protection from an unexpected injury or illness while you travel abroad.

Trip insurance covers losses related to trip cancellation, trip interruption, cancelling for any reason (CFAR), loss of passport or visa, loss of luggage, and emergency medical treatment.

Some U.S. employer plans provide coverage outside of the U.S.; however, it is often limited and many times only available on a reimbursement basis.

Additionally, high deductibles and coinsurance may apply to your claim abroad. Check the terms of your plan to see what (if anything) is covered.

Even if your current medical insurance provides limited coverage for international travel, a travel medical insurance plan can provide richer benefits with no out-of-pocket expense for care, all for less than you would pay for your deductible or coinsurance.
